Masaf ntervened in the case of the mistreatment of the horse Fred Sonic Run that occurred at Taranto racecourse on 26 December and was promptly reported.
‘The perpetrator of the mistreatment, an amateur driver,’ reads the Masaf note, ‘has been identified and has already been sanctioned with an 80-day suspension, in addition to referral to the sports justice bodies of the horse racing sector. Regarding the episode, the General Direction for Horse Racing has also already sent a complaint to the Judicial Police Authorities, providing all the documentation in its possession, together with the testimonies collected, for the actions and investigations within its competence.
The Directorate General also reserves the right to suspend the licence of the driver guilty of the gesture sine die, as well as the adoption of new preventive measures to avoid the occurrence of such episodes in the future’.
What happened in Taranto, underlines the Ministry, ‘is not in line with the renewal plan of Italian horse racing carried out by the Ministry, which is based on the protection of animal welfare, the prevention of doping and the fight against any form of illegality in the horse racing sector’.
