Great victory for Golden Giò on Saturday at Vincennes. The son of Face Time Bourbon and Zed Wise As, bred and owned by the Bivans stables and driven by Mathieu Abrivard for Marco Smorgon’s training, won the Prix Maurice de Gheest, a classic Group 2 race for three-year-olds over a distance of 2,175 metres with a standing start, held on the Parisian ring. It was the first Italian success in this race and came with a personal, and above all race, record of 1.13.1. After a cautious start, Golden Giò positioned himself in third place; he then moved up to second on the last bend due to Marathon Man’s mistake and then on the finishing straight he put in a remarkable gear change that allowed him to easily overtake his rivals. In second place came Magnum du Choquel.
