ITALIAN ST.LEGER: TAANY TAKES DOWN THE GERMAN

25 November 2024

Penultimate meeting of the Milan galloping season centred on the very classic St. leger Italiano, a group 3 test over the distance of 3000 metres traditionally favourable to guests from Germany. Passerelle, however, of honour for Taany, the grey from the Genets stable, ridden by Dario Vargiu for Luciano Vitabile’s training, who had won last week’s Premio Falck for the second year in a row, further improved with a very clear victory after a race conducted at the forefront that was always brilliant and an acceleration that cut the legs off all pursuers already at the final 500 metres. A very clear victory indeed. The Frenchman Utamaro took second place on the 3-year-old No Further Comment, while the German favourite Lion’s Head finished fourth.

Two other good races were also on the programme. The traditional Closing Prize marked the rematch of Anche Meno, with Claudio Colombi for Danilo Pierdomenico, who with an extremely incisive final spurt got the better of the horse ridden by Dario Di Tocco, while in third place was confirmed Blu Note.

The leader of the Italian jockeys made up for it in the Divino Amore prize, listed on the 1000-metre small track moved, as is well known, from Rome, with the victory going to Anthaia (training Endo Botti) who took the lead right from the start and without conceding anything to her adversaries stretched to the final 300 metres without ever giving the impression of being able to be approached. In second place was Chewbacca, who was also excellent over the shortest distance and was the only one to try, while Royal Xenia emerged third in the final stretch.
