The tenth edition of the Meeting International du Maroc, which also included a leg of the Mediterranean Jockeys’ Championship, was held last weekend in Casablanca. The stage was won by our Abdilah ‘Ivan’ El Rherras riding the 4-year-old PSI Briefing, winning by a narrow margin over the favourite Born Super Fal in a race for thoroughbreds aged 4 and over born and bred in Morocco. The Meeting International du Maroc features 14 races with a total prize fund of €8 million, with horses, jockeys and owners from 20 countries taking part.
Originally from Floridia, Sicily, ‘Ivan’ left the island and his family of Moroccan origin at the age of 14 for love of horses to follow his dream of jockeying. He obtained his licence in hurdles in Merano.
Champion of the Mediterranean Islands in 2023, this year he won the Sardinian Derby riding the ‘divine’ Fabiana Junior.
