Reflections at a standstill on the Prix D’Amerique meeting, which undoubtedly left the organisers and especially the PMU exponents satisfied. In fact, 36,000 spectators were declared for Sunday, to which must be added insiders and others who could not be counted, so that in the end the number of 40,000 overall presences seems very plausible. It should be noted that the number of spectators on Saturday was over 7,000.
A total of €27.8 million was played at the PMU in January compared to last year’s €28.5 million, but with a few fewer outlets (those of the Grands Parieurs International closed compared to 2024) and above all one less day 17 in 2025 compared to 18 in 2024 to report that, according to Paris Turf, €17.8 million was played on the Grand Prix d’Amerique alone compared to around 18 in 2024.
THE ITALIANS
As many as 12 Italian breeders won prizes over the Parisian weekend. Obviously the best results were Frank Gio’s victories in the Prix Ourasi (Gr. 1) and Golden Gio’s in the Prix Paul Viel (Gr. 2), but then there were other outstanding placings and in some cases not too much luck. Let us recall, for example, the second place of East Asia and the third of Executiv Ek in the Prix Bold Eagle (another group 1 trial); that of Flavia Bros in the Prix de Chalons en Champagne and then on Sunday that of Cobra Killer Gar in the Prix Jean René Gougeon (Gr. 2). The oscar of bad luck probably goes to Banderas Bi, who on Saturday in the Prix de Luxembourg had to be content with a sixth place obtained without ever really being able to run given the wall of horses in front of him.
In total over the two days in Paris the products of Italian breeding brought home 367,800 euros to which must be added the almost 5000 euros won by the stable Mistero as owner of Lorene d’Aveze who came fourth in one of the trials reserved exclusively for horses born and bred in France. These were in truth perhaps a little excessive, especially on a day with a strong international character like Sunday’s.
