SANTO OLLIO WINS THE EUROPEAN APPRENTICES CHAMPIONSHIP IN SYRACUSE

Italian victory in the European Apprentices Trotting Championship, which, under the legida of the Uet and Masaf, was held in Syracuse. The driver of Calabrian origin took a victory, a second and a seventh place, scoring 32 points that allowed him to get the better of the German Lasse Grundhofer and the Irish jockette Charlie Flanagan, who was highly appreciated for having led horses to the finish line that were not always easy to interpret, despite the fact that trotting in Ireland is not so popular.

At the prize-giving ceremony, Santo Ollio, visibly satisfied and moved along with his family members, particularly wished to thank Lorenzo La Rosa under whose guidance he had attended the trainee course in Palermo before a professional interlude in the north with Cristina Fiore. It was a perfectly successful event: hard fought on the track, but with due fair play off it.

During the two-day event in Syracuse, the final of the Mediterranean Horseracing Union Championship reserved for jockeys was also held, which saw Italy win with Abdhilah El Rerrhas preceding the representative of France in the final classification, while in third place came Libya and Portugal in a tie. In the one reserved for professional drivers, despite Tommaso Di Lorenzo’s victory with Vai Mo Blessed in the Sicilian event, the title was won by Serbia ahead of Malta and Italy.
