Born in Turin, French by adoption. From the Mole Antonelliana to the Eiffel Tower driven by the desire to daring. Gabriele Gelormini, known as ‘Gabi’ by the transalpine people, with a father who is passionate about horses, left at the age of fifteen to face a challenging fifteen years old to face a challenging adventure in the land of Gaul. There were two masters who forged him, Jean Michel Bazire and Bruno Marie.
Gabriele, did you start working with the best, namely Jean Michel Bazire?
Yes, he was my first boss. I’m a loyal guy, in the seventeen years I’ve been here I’ve only had Bazire and Marie. For the last eight years I’ve been racing as a catch driver.
You’ve been appreciated by the French and it wasn’t to be taken for granted. Why do you think?
I don’t know. However, having arrived very young in the French stables, I managed to integrate very quickly. The fact that I am a humble person I think was another important element, without not to mention that I consider myself a hard worker. Doing a profession that I like doesn’t weigh me down.
Let’s talk about Amerique. How many editions have you raced?
I’ve taken to the track eleven times.
It’s a very coveted competition. Is it every driver’s dream?
Everyone wants to race it. It’s the race of the year and everyone aspires to be in it.
And you in the first place?
I am very happy to participate. I was originally going to drive Hohneck. Then we decided not to race because he is less competitive in winter. I had been contacted to ride on the Paris with Ampia Mede sm, but the owners changed their minds. In the end, ten days ago, they hired me to ride Dimitri Ferm.
What horse do you expect? And have you already had the first stable orders?
Dimitri Ferm is a very good horse, whom I know and have seen race. The last two races didn’t turn out well for him, whereas in the previous races he always made a good impression. He lost twice from Jean Michel Bazire’s horse, Jushua Tree, who will be absent on Sunday.
For the guide, do you feel more French or Italian? Equidia called you the most French of Italian drivers.
I adapt easily to tracks and horses. I’ve been lucky enough to race everywhere. I have also won the Elitloppet in Sweden.
Now it’s time for a prediction on the most important race in world trotting. Who do you want to start with?
Go On Boy, Justin Bold, Hooker Berry, and Idao de Tillard. Romain Derieux’s horse for me is the favourite because he has done a beautiful preparation. He is at 120% and will be out of four.
Although the Italians have nothing to envy, what do you appreciate about the French?
I find the French very good at preparing horses. It’s not easy to manage a horse, to ever spend it to the and get him to the top at the end of January. They are good at planning and very punctilious.
What is Gabriele Gelormini’s wish?
For several years I have been in the top ten drivers. I would like to win the whip in France once in my life and enter the top ten for the first time with the Italian colours.
