TOTAL PRIZE MONEY AND DAILY AVERAGE PRIZES INCREASE IN 2025

16 January 2025

During the meeting with the representatives of the racecourses held last Monday, the Masaf Undersecretary with responsibility for Horse Racing, Sen. Patrizio Giacomo La Pietra, and the Director General for Horse Racing, Eng. Remo Chiodi, released some data on the allocation of resources for the ordinary prize money for 2025.

As already announced in October when the Decree defining the ‘technical’ calendar was issued, the number of racing days for 2025 will be 1200, i.e. 800 for trotting and 400 for galloping.

During 2025, the ordinary prize money will have an increase compared to 2024, in the order of 2%.

Talking about the ordinary prize money for the trotting, there will be a distribution of 36 million 562,350 euros compared to 36,028,130 in 2024, an increase of 1.5%. However, the most significant fact lies in the allocation of the average prize money per day, which, also due to the overall reduction in the number of racing days, will see an average increase of 6.6%, going from 42,867 euros to 45,702 euros. An increase that in some cases will be used to increase the number of races per meeting, in others to increase the purse of individual races. The increase is also evident when analysing the macro-areas into which horse racing in Italy has been divided. All will have more resources available for prize money than last year.
The figure is also homogeneous when considering the 400 gallop days alone, a speciality (including jumps) for which 20 million 258,000 euro will be distributed, compared to 19,786,544 euro, an increase of 2%. The average per day will rise from 46,887 euro to 50,645 euro with an increase of 6%. All galloping racecourses will have a minimum increase in endowment per day of 5%.
